Alien Plant Discovered Growing on the W&E at Wednesfield!

I have received this information from The Canal & River Trust following the report I made about the allegation that Giant Hogweed, a dangerous and toxic plant is growing on the Wyrley & Essington Canal in Wednesfield.

I had received this information from a Wednesfield Resident who being ‘eagle eyed’ spotted the unwanted alien growing on the canal bank!

CRT tell me “Thanks for reporting this. From looking at the photo, it does appear to be Giant Hogweed. Whilst this has been recorded and treated at this location in the past, for some reason, so far this year we don’t seem to have any records of this.

I have passed the details and the photo onto our contracts team who will instruct our contractors to deal with this ASAP.”

So the ‘thanks’ are not really for me, but for public spirited and Eagle eyed Maureen Smith!

Thanks Maureen. I am not releasing the location as it might attract people who could get badly burned by this toxic plant…….
