Welcome Martin J Cooper -Ashmore Park Walk of Stars.

Today we welcome and admit into the ‘Ashmore Park Walk of Stars ‘ Martin John Cooper who lived in Kitchen Lane, he attended Wednesfield Grammar School and went onto work in a Building Society. Martin was recommended for Ashmore Park Walk of Stars by Bill Parry a long time resident. I want to thank Bill for providing the supporting evidence.

Martin was an England International and played Rugby Union for Club side Moseley. He played for the school and for Wolverhampton . He won his first international cap against France in 1973. England won that game 14-6.

In total Martin won 11 caps for England between 1973 and 1977.

Please welcome Martin to the Ashmore Park Walk of Stars

Rock Band Magnum’s Al Barrow Joins Ashmore Park ‘Walk of Stars’.

Well I promised that I would release the latest Member of the Ashmore Park Walk of Stars, and I have great pleasure to announce that Al Barrow of Rock Band Magnum,  is our latest member! He was Born Nov 1968 in Ashmore Park, Wednesfield to Margaret & David Barrow.

Alan Barrow -Magnum

He attended Oak Meadow Primary School and then Coppice High Schools. Before moving onto  further education at Bilston Arts College.

Alan then became a pro sessional musician in 1995.

joining the much acclaimed  Magnum in 2001 to present day.

Al tells me that he was always interested in music and arts from an early age. His  mother was a singer in local choirs. He says ” so I think I get my talents from her. My great grandfather I was told played in the music halls all around the UK at the turn of the century so I feel being a musician was in the blood.”

Both his brothers Scott and Rob are drummers & his  sister Sue is also a singer. As he tells me “you could say we are fairly musical family. The Von traps of Ashmore Park!”

During our conversation Alan went onto tell me “I had what you may call these days as a very strict upbringing by my dad, but this did teach me the rights and wrong in life and how to give respect to those who deserve it.  I had all the usual short term jobs as YTS back in the day and spent a long time in both retail & production line work up until around the age of 30.  I was quite a late comer to being a musician but played lots of sessions for local bands and studios locally. Nothing major but it kept my interest going.

One day I got a call to see if I was available to do a tour for a band that needed a bass player. This turned out to be Bob Catley & Tony Clarkin.  They were doing a small project called Hard Rain which went on to do 2 albums and a few short UK tours.

Bob and Tony had been asked to put Magnum back together after a 6 year hiatus and I was asked to stay on a full time bass player. So here we are 10 albums later for me & 20 for the band over all. We will be recording our 21st album in 2019. We have had ever increasing success with our releases & the trend seems to say it will continue to get better with each album.”

Alan went onto tell me that “I am very proud to have my name on the back of the civic hall “Wall of Fame” as part of the Wolverhampton/Black Country artists. My name now hangs behind the venue’s stage alongside other Midland big names including Led Zeppelin drummer Jon Bonham, Slade frontman Noddy Holder and Black Country Communion’s Glenn Hughes. I think I am still the youngest member on that wall up to date??”

Now if you are interested in seeing and hearing Magnum you will be pleased to note that Magnum will return to the Midlands on the 29th November to play one of their favourite local venues, The Robin 2 in Bilston. I am sure that Al would love to hear ‘Ashma Aye We’ rise from the floor of the Robin 2 on the 28 th November – Get your tickets early folks!

Alan I emigrated to Chattanooga in Tennessee, USA with my wife Rachael in 2016.

He return many times a year to record with Magnum & also to tour. He told me that “I am always pleased to get the chance to visit my old haunts. Local pubs, see friends & family who still live locally. Wednesfield and Ashmore Park. The area  holds some fond memories and it`s always nice to visit..oh & have a cuppa with my mum.”

Ashmore Park Walk of Stars – New Entrant To Be Unveiled Soon!

Councillor Phil Bateman said “I am close to announcing yet another very worthy and talented International and National  Musician to our Ashmore Park ‘Walk of Stars’ . He will be the very first Rock Musician to be included in the list.

I am very excited about this particular individual. I am hoping to unveil the name and a little about his history and the contribution he makes to this music genre in a few days  time! “

The Ashmore Park Walk of Stars is all about inspiring young people and others to cast their ambitions wide!

Talented individuals really do exist and my job here is to expose them so that we can all admire their great talents, and hopefully they will inspire others to strive to produce and deliver the extraordinary talents that we all have.

Here on this very ordinary housing estate in Wednesfield we are always uncovering individuals that make it to the top of their particular profession.

Those that make it onto our Ashmore Park Walk of Stars have very strong links either through living here, or working on the estate, or attending school.

Ashmore Park ‘Walk of Stars’.

Ashmore Park Walk of Stars!

Today the 12th December 2018 – We announce the twentieth person who has entered our magnificent Ashmore Park Walk of Stars!

Ashmore Park is a great community, and Ashmore Parker’s are great folk! The estate has always fostered good sportsmen and women. But not everyone is aware that the estate has nurtured other great talents also.

I have represented Ashmore Parkers and Wednesfield people on two Councils for some 32 years! I lived on Ashmore Park in the early part of my life and my sister Eileen still does. I went to school on the estate and I have had the great fortune to be involved in every day estate life, for decades.
One of my constituents Ian Eastaugh tapped out a message on my Face Book Page suggesting we had a roll of honour for ‘famous Ashmore Parker’s!

I thought it was a great idea, I knew about the decent amateur footballers that the estate produced like Brian Blower and Arthur (Archie) Richards, Steve Williams and his brother professional footballer Gary Williams, and Sean O’Driscoll. But what other Ashmore Parker had become ‘famous in their field’!

I decided to turn to the World Wide Web. It is a wonderful tool, I asked through my Face Book page for Ashmore Parkers, to tell me who they thought should be recognised in some public way!

Here are the names and professions of people who have made it to this list! Its breadth will blow you away. I do hope that this Walk of Stars initiative will help to inspire Ashmore Park youngsters.

Ashmore Park ‘Walk of Stars’ – Reported in the Express & Star!

express_and_star

Here is what the Express and Star say  http://www.expressandstar.com/opinion/trusted-voices/phil-bateman/2016/12/19/ashmore-park-walk-of-stars-newest-entrant/

I have edited and created this page to high-light and draw attention to the fantastic life & personal contribution this Ashmore Park housing estate in Wednesfield has added to the City of Wolverhampton, and of course the nation.

There are people on this list who are eminent in the field of excellence within which they operate within, some with real impact way beyond the boundaries of Wolverhampton, and Britain, even having impact upon foreign shores!

This ‘Walk of Stars’ is not yet complete, neither are the names listed here the only people to make an impact on our lives, with there skill, there professionalism or their talent. But those that are listed are people I hope we are very proud of.

There are more names to come, and more ‘Star’s’ to be revealed. I am very sure of that!

I hope that residents living in Wednesfield North and readers of this ‘Walk of Stars’ page, will help me to reveal others who may be added to this page. My aim is to see these great Ashmore Parkers helping to use their own recognition to increase the self esteem of young people on Ashmore Park and across Wednesfield and the City of Wolverhampton. High lighting the very best of education, sporting achievement, great  family up bringing, allowing all of us in the past, present and into the future, to be proud of our roots, and the wonderful achievements of our community ‘Stars’.

I HOPE THIS PAGE WILL ACT VERY MUCH AS A ‘CHEER-LEADER’ TO THESE AIMS.

Ashmore Park ‘Walk of Stars’ Newest Entrant!

phil-palmerHere is the latest entry into the Ashmore Park ‘Walk of Stars’.

Phil Palmer is a legend on the estate with his Musicland Shop. He has given countless children and their families an introduction into the world of music. Bringing pleasure to many and in some cases sparking music talent that is being displayed much wider than in  just  our locality.

On top of that Phil has played for royalty and appeared at top notch venues around the UK and abroad displaying his own music talent. He may not live on Ashmore Park, but he is certainly PART of Ashmore Park.

He is also a  former Military man, who went onto win a Guinness World Record for the longest note blown. I was one of the judges on that occasion and the event took place at Coppice High School. So with all of these links….I am declaring today in the run up to Christmas 2016 that Philip Palmer be enrolled into the Ashmore Park ‘Walk of Stars’.

Barrie Gower – Creative and skilful. A very inspirational Ashmore Parker that makes my Ashmore Park Walk of Stars

Barrie Gower –  Former Coppice High School student, who now runs his own company in South East England . Councillor Phil Bateman said ” Creative and skilful. A very inspirational Ashmore Parker who easily makes my ‘Ashmore Park Walk of Stars’.

Barrie is a very creative Emmy Award winning Prosthetic makeup Designer, involved with many productions for both TV and film.

Including the Harry Potter series and HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Contributing also to The Wolfman & The Iron Lady.

Ashmore Park Walk of Stars! Raj Kumar 16th Entry on Our Star Spangled Walkway.

After a suitable time period of reflection. I am today announcing that Raj Kumar, the popular Hardware store owner that died so suddenly at his store in the Ashmore Park Shopping Parade recently, will now join the much acclaimed Ashmore Park Walk of Stars!

Raj was a huge personality here in Ashmore Park, and his sad demise led to thousands of Ashmore Parkers turning up to pass their respects.

Councillor Phil Bateman said today “ I have had dozens of people asking me to add Raj to the ‘ Walk of Stars’ – He very much fills the criteria to be honoured in this way.
He was a stand-out trader here for 32 years, he was immensely popular, and I think he did more for relationships than perhaps anyone we know. So many Ashmore Parkers have asked for his inclusion to the Walk of Stars, I am happy to agree with their sentiment. Raj was a legend locally, on a par e with Ronnie Barkers own cult shop keeper Arkwright!

It was only recently when we were discussing the WIRE awards with Raj, that he told me he had been working on the estate for 32 years. He was a very proud man, a nice man, he put his customers first. There are so many residents who can tell you of his personal kindness, and his cheerful demeanour. What Raj had done for them, how he had gone out of his way to give customer service. Raj Kumar was a great man, a kind man, a lovely man, in his shop and outside his shop.

His customers were from right across Wolverhampton and further.

Raj’s shop was an ‘emporium of delight’! It was full of goods and widgets! Raj knew where everything was, he believed serving his customers was important, and he told me he had worked hard over the years to win his customers respect. He certainly did that and today we honour him further by enrolling him into Ashmore Park Walk of Stars!

Here is the latest Version of my   Facebook site ‘Walk of Stars – Ashmore Park’  to high-light and draw attention to this fantastic life & personal contribution individuals from this housing estate in Wednesfield have added to the City of Wolverhampton, and of course our Nation.

There are people on this list who are eminent in their field of Excellence they operate within, some with impact far beyond the shores of Britain.

This list is not by itself complete, these are not the only people to make an impact on everyday lives

There are of course others, I am sure of that!

I hope residents and other readers will identify other names that can be brought forward and added to this page. I remain hopeful that a more ‘tangible’ recognition of Ashmore Park ‘Stars’ will be delivered in time and not just through the medium of Social Media. My aim is to see a ‘Walk of Stars’ laid at the Ashmore Park Shopping Parade, thereby recognising individuals with immense talent, at a place recognised as being in the center of our community. This would act as an economic driver to the shopping parade as the development of the ‘Walk of Stars’ would attract the attention of visitors .

Such an action would increase the self-esteem of the estate, help to continue to build self-esteem and reputation for Ashmore Park, Wednesfield, and Wolverhampton.

I do hope this article will help to ‘Cheer-Lead’ our community to support these aims and objectives.

These are the Walk of Stars that have been identified.
