“Congratulations Jeremy Corbyn “

Councillor Phil BatemanI Congratulate Jeremy Corbyn Labour’s New Leader. I also congratulate Tom Watson as being elected the new Deputy Leader. I DID vote for my friend Tom and I also wish him well in his new role.

In that recent statement I made in early  September I stated that “I have always been a Labour Party loyalist. When my favourites have lost, when the policies I have been keen on have disappeared. It’s the loyalty to the thrust of the Party that has still been the overriding issue.”

Well with our new Leader I shall do as I stated, I will be working hard! –  I will be there working for the Labour Party. What I do hope for is that the name calling ceases. I do want to see another Labour Government before my lights go out forever! The last Labour Governments did much for people. I have been proud to say that I worked hard for the Party in the wilderness years of the 70’s and 80’s. Very tough years before the advent of New Labour.

Much that Blair & Brown did, I still very much view as being good for working people, and good for this Country.

The Tories are devastating the welfare arrangements Labour put in place. Disabilities and the weakest economically in our society are already feeling the pain of the Conservatives.  I know that we shall be tackling the Tories with some gusto! That appears certain.

I really wished that our MP Emma Reynolds had not spoken out in the way that she did. Even at this late stage I would hope that she will re consider her position on resignation.

I really would like to see all of us try very hard to come behind the new Leadership team. The results in all sections of the Party was overwhelming for Jeremy Corbyn. All of us including Emma I hope will reflect long and hard on this.

In the meantime Local Government services, the welfare arrangements, leisure and young people services are under huge threat’s from this Government. Now I hope that we all get behind Labour and make people aware of the change of pace that the Party has taken…..Labour’s Arab Spring is without doubt moving like a tidal wave and altering the political landscape. I shall be doing all I can for my constituents, my Party, and my beliefs.
