More Tory Blood Letting?

Wednesday is Wolverhampton City Council Full Council Meeting. The meeting starts at 17.45 and the public are welcome to attend. There are more than 9 items on the agenda.
There should be a good debate on a number of items. But it will be interesting to see how the Conservatives shape up at the meeting. Their split has widened, and their Leader, the pugnacious Mrs Bradley has stepped down, right on the eve of Council. Now the Conservatives would have you believe that this was a gracious side step away from power!

But don't you believe it, a Leader stepping down on the eve of full Council without being pushed?......blimey its like finding wings on pork scratchings!

There has been unrest in their camp for quite a while, that is why one of their former Leader's now sits along side me on the Labour back benches. Without doubt there is some agonising taking place in the blue half of this City.

I also thought that it was interesting that the Wolverhampton Conservatives have raised the Western Orbital Route again. I for one feel that this is an inevitable policy issue. But interestingly it pits Conservative against Conservative. It is one of the hottest policy issues around.

South Staffs Tory's cannot abide the thought of a Western Orbital Route, and of course Sir Patrick their (under threat) Knight is implacably opposed to any development taking place in his constituency. I can imagine lots of suited men and blue rinse women sitting around their Aga's calling for a plague to be wrought on their city cousin's!

I expect the real reason behind all these machinations though is political power. There is a shadowy group at work on the fringe of the city. Money men that can de-select local Conservatives, they are even bold enough to launch a putsch aimed at changing Tory MP's. I wonder how many other Councillors noted the senior Tory businessman sat at the back of the last Council meeting. I heard the comments from the opposite side " giving mark's out of ten!"

Well the Conservatives didn't perform very well at that event.......maybe that City Council was the tipping point for the leadership team?

Lets keep an eye on what is likely to happen now they have let the Western Orbital Route 'rabbit' out of the bag.

Of course following the advocacy of a Western Orbital route will come the development opportunities. Maybe that is the aim? Who knows? What is certain is that there is a blood letting that is vicious and is taking Tories out almost every couple of months. The loss of the Conservative Leader has scared her deputy to announce that she is not after the job!

Perhaps we ought to be taking bets on the identity of the next Conservative victim?
