The Health Secretary today announced plans to roll out rapid Covid-19 tests, currently being used as part of the mass testing pilot in Liverpool, to other parts of the country, including Wolverhampton.
The lateral flow Covid-19 tests give people their results inside 60 minutes, which will enable us to break chains of transmission much more quickly. We expressed an interest to the Department of Health and Social Care in bringing these quick-turnaround tests to Wolverhampton and welcome today’s announcement about the provision of rapid Covid-19 tests to councils in parts of the West Midlands, including Wolverhampton, in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Wolverhampton’s sixth Covid-19 test centre – at Rookery Street in Wednesfield – is due to open later this week, with pilot testing scheduled for Thursday, and work on a seventh site in Whitmore Reans is underway.
We’re also reminding residents that the centres remain open during the national lockdown which is now underway, and that people must book a test if they either display symptoms of Covid-19 or have been asked by the Council to get one.
