Criminal Damage in Wednesfield North is perhaps the biggest problem we face as a community. In the last 12 months in Ashmore Park and Coppice farm for instance. The statistics inform me that 93 cases of criminal damage have taken place, if you look at the whole of the Wednesfield area the figures are much larger.

Its this petty vandalism that gets everyone down, like the broken wing mirrors this week end in Gurnard Close Coppice Farm. There is no reason for this, its just sheer wanton vandalism. But how do we combat this? I am in constant touch with the police-Do you think that they are adopting the right tactics? Should we be asking what the local authority can do? Or is it down to the community to do more? I look for your help and your comments!

Councillor Phil Bateman the trouble with people in this day and age is the i'm all right jack approach.. ie the wing mirrors, if it was seen then maybe people just thought ah well it's not my mirror..i have seen people turn their heads and cross the road to keep away from people vandalising property, most people don't want to know and wont get involved.

Perhaps your right? But the fact is that people are society and if you want that sort of society to continue you will do just that. I for my part want to change society into a much more care orientated model. That is why I am in politics...that is why it is important that we deal with the youngsters. In a way that enforces the law.

A break in at Coppice High School has left thousands of £'s of damage, and the childrens exams and education has been disrupted. Some classes will not be at school on tuesday. Anyone with information please contact the police.

At a meeting in Ashmore Park on the 8th January Inspector Turley told the audience of around 50 people that had jammed into the meeting, "he had increased the number of police patrols, over November and December". He also admitted that the number of incidents that had taken place during this period on Ashmore Park "was way above those that had previously been reported."

Until we go back to public birchings of these yobs then this will just continue.

Society is meant to consist of RIGHTS balanced by RESPONSIBILITY.

These yobs know their "rights" but have no concept of responsibility to anything other than the pack they run with.

Until it is demonstrated to them, forcibly, that there is an authority greater than "mick made me do it" with consequences to the yob not the householder for the yob's actions then this will continue. Indeed in the 40 yrs of my life I've seen it deteriorate.

I am not sure if that will solve the problem. But reports tonight again tell me that a wheelie bin was set on fire in the Reynolds Walk area of Ashmore Park. Any information tell the police!

Just to keep everyone in the picture ASBO officials are interviewing individuals and parents on Ashmore Park following the winter of anti social behaviour that we have just suffered.

A Wednesfield resident tells me that the majority of young people drinking on public open space on the 'black path' are under age and attending school. That the vast majority of these youngsters are girls!

A public meeting was held last night in the community centre. It was well attended. Residents were delighted in the response that they had from the police. The police also informed them that criminal damage incidents had fallen back to more normal levels in January. They agreed that this Bucknall Road/Gurnard Close special meeting could now be wound into the normal Ashmore Park Police Liaison Committee Meetings.

The police have released new figures. There is a report on the front pages of this web site. Crime rose by 22% on Ashmore/Coppice during the last 12 months. Criminal damage is still the largest are of crime recorded. The good news is that crime in January 2008 fell by-13%! Lets hope it continues to drop month on month!
