From the Archives of Councillor Phil Bateman March 2006- ‘Opening Ashmore Park Community Centre’

Our whole community are now very much aware of the new community facilities at The Hub- But before that we had a Community Centre located at the former Linthouse Day Centre.

On the 4th March 2006 it was officially opened by Mary and myself. It was an honour to perform the opening and of course the day became a part of my Archives. I shall be delving into my archives through out the summer.

Councillor Phil Bateman said “We officially cut the ribbon and I explained how pleased I felt about the new development. It was a superb building and I was very pleased to see the facilities that were being offered to the residents of Wednesfield North. Those classes included Art, Pyro-techniques and Computers, also other facilities were being considered.

I was also pleased to hear how partnership arrangements in both St Albans Church and Hodson House Sheltered Housing scheme was being explored. I urged that community group to do all that it could to develop facilities and opportunities that the community as a whole could be proud of.

It was a great morning and both the Mayoress and I are pleased to have played a role in the development of this new centre.”
