I’m A Fan of Wolverhampton’s Bus Station!

I read in the local media from time to time criticisms about Wolverhampton Bus Station.

I know it has its detractors, but it also has its friends! I place myself as one of its friends. Why is that the case? Well the answer is clear. It is a really good piece of transport infrastructure, that is anchoring public transport down in this North East part of the City.

It allows for good interchange between bus and train, and it is providing much needed footfall for business and retail in this part of the City. It plays a major function in supporting the Courts, the Hotels, Theatre and the leisure and evening economy.

What many do not realise is that the Bus Station provides a start & finish for some 45 bus services which are themselves servicing all parts of the Black Country South Staffordshire and Shropshire. The facilities within the bus station is a huge step up for the City to what they were prior to the construction of our bus station. It keeps passengers dry and out of the ravages of winter snow! provides up to the minute information from electronic  information boards…it is a great and functional building.

In all- Weekly Departures stand at 10,021buses.

So in a year there are  521,092 departures taking place from this location.

That is millions of bus passengers all with money , all making financial transactions on their way to and from the bus station as they go about their business. Just imagine having to find the time and space to provide in the City Centre enough room at the kerb for more than a half a million bus movements. The City would be clogged!images bus stationWolverhampton Bus Station
