Information on Employment and Lay-Offs.

One of the questions that I have been receiving as a City Councillor is this one –

On 20th March 2020 the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that the Government intended to cover up to 80% of the pay for the employees of employers who could not provide them with work due to the COVID-19 pandemic

The purpose of the scheme was to avoid mass lay-offs and redundancies – The scheme he announced was initially for three months.

As I can understand from my enquiries there is still a lot of work to be undertaken by the Government on the details of how this will work in practice.

The Treasury and HM Revenue & Customs are still working out the full details of the scheme, and how it will work in practice, and when there are confirmed details these will be shown on the Government’s coronavirus business support website.

Hope this helps……
