I have recently joined the credit union, and have been proud to do so. Its the largest credit union in Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire. It has more than 500 Members living in Wednesfield! I have joined that band of Wednesfield residents and hope I can play my part in this ethical bank. Wolverhampton Credit Union are a not-for-profit community bank, owned and controlled by our members.
Our mission is simple. It’s “to give our members a brighter financial future by providing ethical, honest and fair community banking”.
We do this by using our members’ savings to fund loans to our other members at fair and reasonable interest rates. The interest that gets paid back from the loans is used to fund a return on members’ savings.
Unlike the big high street banks, we don’t have shareholders which means everything we do is for the benefit of our members.
By being your local community bank, our members are helping us to achieve our vision which is to “stimulate our local economy by strengthening and financially empowering our community”.
Our values are at the heart of everything we do. They shape the way we behave – towards our members and each other. So; whether you’re borrowing, saving or using our services, you can guarantee that we’ll be:
A little bit about our history…
We were formed back in 2002 and now have more than 6,500 members across Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire. In 2015, we merged with the New Friends Credit Union in Low Hill to become the largest credit union across Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire.
We have two branches in Wolverhampton. Our main branch is at 73 Worcester Street and we have a smaller branch where you can pop in to talk to us which is on the ground floor of the Civic Centre in St Peter’s Square.
You can read more about what we’ve achieved lately by reading our Annual Report 2016.
Your money is safe with us
As well as being your local, fair and ethical bank – you can rest easily knowing that your money is safe with us.
We’re authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and authorised and regulated by the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority who regulate all the banks and building societies. We’re also a member of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) and we hold a Consumer Credit Licence that is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority.
Being ethical drives everything we do which is why we choose to bank with The Co-operative Bank, Triodos Bank and one of the few remaining mutuals, Nationwide.
