Unemployment in Wolverhampton has reduced to 4.2% (6,677) last year it stood as 6.2% (9,851)
It is still however higher than the Black Country average of 3.3% and the West Midlands average 2.3% and the English average of 1.7%
The highest JSA claimant rates are in St Peter’s (6.5%) and East Park (5.9%). The lowest JSA claimant rates are in Penn (1.4%) and Tettenhall Regis (1.5%). Comparing May 2015 to the previous month, seventeen of the City’s wards have decreased claimant rates, with two wards remaining the same.
Only Bilston North saw an increase in JSA claimant rate
Councillor Phil Bateman said today “Wednesfield North has the third lowest unemployment rate in the City. With 168 claiming JSA which equates to 2.5% rate. Incidentally Wednesfield South has a higher rate at 3.6%. Clearly this is good news, unemployment is a scourge for those residents who have lost their jobs”.
