Today on the 9th September – Former Councillor for Wednesfield North and a former Mayor of Wolverhampton was laid to rest, in the presence of her loving family, following an informed Church Service held at St Peter’s Church, attended by the current Mayor of the City of Wolverhampton – Councillor Barry Findlay & his Mayoress, and Councillors from across the City.
Wednesfield North Labour Party was also represented at the service by Councillor’s Phil Bateman, Mary Bateman and Rita Potter. Other members of Wednesfield North LP were also in attendance.
Councillor Phil Bateman said “We paid our respects to a very forceful former City Councillor who had strong links with Wednesfield. Gwen would have been pleased to see the Parish Church of Wolverhampton so full, with people who knew her over all the years. Gwen was involved in a multitude of sectors, not just content to play a role, she played a leading role in many.
Now dear colleague is the time to ‘Rest in Peace’ because you have made more than just a little contribution to this City, its growth, its prosperity, its development, and its community cohesiveness. Others are already following in your footsteps, they have had a fine role model to learn from.”
