Today I have had a meeting with ‘Hands on Wednesfield,’ and Creative Black Country, it was a meeting – a precursor to something that may be happening during August around the canal at Bentley Bridge. More information to follow!
I also visited the home of an elderly constituent who required help with a form that needed filling in with regards to his mobility.
I also checked out an old garage site in Ferguson street where an old mattress has been dumped. I shall be contacting Wolverhampton Homes about this.
Finally a visit to the Hub at Ashmore Park this afternoon, to book a meeting room on Monday for a set of meetings around football and football issues.
Whilst at the Hub at Ashmore Park – I also had a meeting with the Healthy Lifestyles Adviser based at the Hub, Katheryn answered a number of questions, around healthy lifestyles.
The fact that more than 100 people visit the Hub to talk with the lifestyle adviser about healthy choices in their lives, was for me a real phenomenal statistic. The work she undertakes is about improving the Wednesfield North communities health, and to encourage individuals to look at their diet as well as signposting classes, and activities.
Katheryn explained how the service operated and how they sign post the community into other groups like, Walking for Health, the Techno Gym. She explained how she advises people on giving up smoking, helping them to understand the impact that smoking has.
I was much impressed with the work that Katheryn undertakes in our community as an Adviser.
I know that the Healthy Lifestyles team are transferring as going concern from the NHS into the Local Authority Public Health team. This is obviously unsettling for the Healthy Lifestyles workers.
I am keen to find out what the future holds for them. As any loss of the functions undertaken by this team here in the Hub will have quite a detrimental effect on our community. The Hub at Ashmore Park team also explained to me how having the Life Style Advisers working from their regularly was in itself a huge benefit for the work that the Hub does with their own community groups.
Having someone with Katheryn’s knowledge was more than useful to Hub members. In short The Hub like this service. Plus they very much like the individual who also delivers it! Take a bow Katheryn…..
