New government data reveals that people in the West Midlands are more likely to work as vehicle valets and hospital porters than those in other parts of the UK.

Thirty-one per cent of the UK’s assemblers of vehicles and metal goods live in the region.

The most common job in the West Midlands is sales and retail assistants, with 88,000 across the region, followed by jobs such as admin assistants, clerks, and office administrators, 71,000, and care workers and home carers, of which there are 67,000
