United Nations lawyer to probe benefits reforms
An inquiry by the UN into whether the UK is violating the rights of the disabled with its welfare reforms have been branded “absurd and offensive” by Tory MP Ian Liddell-Grainger. The UN is sending Costa Rican human rights lawyer Catalina Devandas Aguilar to the UK in the coming months to spearhead an inquiry into claims that Britain is guilty of ‘grave or systematic violations’ of the rights of the disabled.
This makes interesting reading, even if it is viewed in some quarters as ‘offensive’, the fact is that the Government and the policy it is now following is causing international head lines as well as local headlines. This Conservative Governments benefits reforms are all about saving money and not about the individuals needs and requirements in a civilised World.
