Wednesfield Bloomers Strike Gold!

ashmore Sept 2019If You Live in Wednesfield, or have any links with Wednesfield, feel very proud!

Heart of England in Bloom is one of seventeen regions and Nations within the UK that delivers the Britain in Bloom campaign on behalf of the Royal Horticultural Society.

Britain in Bloom is one of the most effective and longest running environmental campaigns in the UK and each year it grows in size and importance and involving more people, groups and organisations within the community.

I am informed that a massive 300,000 Volunteers across the Country, give their time up to devote to their own community’s proposals, during this competition.

Wednesfield has itself seen many of its citizens, giving their time and their effort to brighten our community. Both Mary and I, with Councillor Rita Potter have been so moved by the way residents’ young and old have given to the Wednesfield in Bloom campaign. We are so proud of our community!

Some residents have given funds, some have turned up with their own plants that they have grown, or bought a pot plant for the volunteers to use in the huge planting scheme that has taken place this year in 2019.

When we struck Gold in 2018 with a much-welcomed Community Award attached as well. Much of the area judged then was in the Wednesfield Village itself.

But our 2019 bid this year covered an enormous area of settlement!

From The Hub at Ashmore Park – Through to the Ashmore Inn, The Co-op and the whole of the Ashmore Park Shopping Parade, into the Ashmore Park itself and the new garden created by Wednesfield Aces Cycle Speedway Club.

Almost every shop in the Ashmore Park Shopping Parade played a role or took part in extending the 2019 bid, plus they looked after and watered their plants. Creating a wonderful Display!

From the Dog & Partridge in the Wednesfield High Street, the shops in High St and the Church and Gurdwara the Sainsbury stores, the Wyrley & Essington Canal Bentley Bridge Retail and Bentley Bridge Leisure Park.

It’s a huge chunk of land and our volunteers have been all over the length of the site, cleaning, planting and watering the beautiful plants that have been nurtured.

Today we had the Results Day and this is what happened.

“Gold ✔️ Category winner ✔️ And now we’re through to the national finals 😲✔️🎉”

So Wednesfield – We have an enormous result. A massive one at that, and it looks like next year will be an even harder task than we thought it might be!

So, here is my congratulations to every one who helped, sponsored, delivered, planted, provided flowers, watered, said nice things to encourage us! You have been magnificent, and it’s you as well as the Bloomers that have taken us to this height.
