Advice On Tree Pruning.

If you want to trim trees and you are doubtful about the legality. Always seek advice.

I recently received a request about two trees in the back gardens of private homes in Damson Close, as to whether they could have the branches that over hang neighbouring gardens trimmed. I wrote to the City Council Planning Department requesting advice and this is the response that I have received.

Yes they can prune overhanging foliage up to the fence line of their property. The only condition with doing this type of work is that the tree must not be pruned in such a way as to make it unstable or likely to wind blow. Any Tree Surgeon would be able to advise on this matter. If the owner of the tree also would like to prune their side of the canopy the cost may be cheaper for the two parties to sharOak tree'se. List of Contractors attached.

I also asked if the trees were subject of a TPO,  the response was this-

Tree Preservation Orders were served on the two Oak trees in this location, rear of 1 & 2 Damson Close. The Order was not confirmed and has therefore lapsed. There are no restrictions relating to the pruning of these trees by the owner or adjacent property owners where the trees overhang.

I hope that this information is useful to neighbours.
