I have received an email from the City Council Officers in Building Control and they have told me that they have been “Made aware of this problem and we have visited the site. The owner of the site has not filled the necessary paperwork to request permission for demolition of the former garage structures and therefore, that is why neighbours were not notified that demolition works may be undertaken.”
Councillor Phil Bateman said “This is disturbing information, but the situation is now being looked at with other sectors of the City Council.
I am keen that the Legal team at the City Council now takes the matter up. The Neighbourhood should also know that even with what has been uncovered there is no quick fixes. I am keen to press the City Council legal team, with Building Control, Planning and Environmental Health to act as quickly as possible to get the private owner of this property to accept responsibility,and to get back within the law. I will keep everyone updated as the information becomes available.”
