The ‘Wednesfield in Bloom’ team has been working hard as many of you are aware to improve the Village before the advent of the Britain in Bloom inspectors who are due here on the 1st July 2016. Under the leadership of Simon Archer a member of the Hands on Wednesfield voluntary group. Local business and High Street shops have been encouraged to assist the volunteers in their bid to gain Wednesfield special recognition.
There has been a lot of voluntary work taking place across Wednesfield in the last few months, led by Hands on Wednesfield a voluntary group that has martialled the Village to bid for recognition from the Britain in Bloom organisation.
For my part I along with my Councillor colleagues have tried to encourage residents to play a part by keeping their gardens nice and tidy right across Wednesfield. Also we have been encouraging Public Houses in Wednesfield via social media to hang those wonderful ‘Hanging Baskets’ packed full of flowers on their establishments. I on behalf of my Councillor colleagues have been in contact with Bentley Bridge Leisure Park management, their business interest is in Shopping & Entertainment. The Bentley Bridge Leisure Park site has the Cineworld Cinema, Hollywood Bowl, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, KFC & Subway plus The Nickelodeon and the Bella Italia restaurant on their site. The parent company of Bentley Bridge is the massive Land Securities’ who’s portfolio of retail destinations – ranging from 16 shopping centres and 16 retail parks to 2 outlets and 19 prime leisure and entertainment schemes – receives 360 million shoppers a year!. | |
After making contact with the Manager of the Bentley Bridge Leisure Park and after explaining what was taking place and the timescales, plus the reasons why the Village had come together, and how hard everyone was working together. |
The Bentley Bridge Management informed me that they were keen to assist the volunteers in their bid for Britain in Bloom recognition!
Bentley Bridge wanted to be actively engaged in supporting ‘Wednesfield in Bloom.’ Now listen to this- They now inform me that they have taken the steps required and will now be having hanging baskets installed by the canal path behind The Nickelodeon by the 1st of July, also Hanging Baskets installed in their Avenue linking the car park with the trading outlets. If that wasn’t exciting enough!
They have also informed me that they are going to install picnic benches and tables alongside the canal on their property running alongside the Wyrley & Essington canal.
This is magnificent news as it will open up and attracts families to come along and view our magnificent Wyrley & Essington canal, the landscapes and the wildlife. Not forgetting the increasing number of Narrow Boats that are discovering Wednesfield Bentley Bridge, bringing colour and characters to the waterway.
What a great contribution Bentley Bridge Leisure Park is making to our historic Village’s bid for recognition from Britain in Bloom. More importantly is signifies how successful the bid is in bringing together the High Street, business, and local individuals for the common good. Now that is something to be proud about Wednesfield!
