Councillor Phil Bateman said ” It would be brilliant if budding artists from Wednesfield, joined the competition””
Queen’s Jubilee Portrait Competition
Budding Wolverhampton artists of any age could get to have their work displayed in the city’s art gallery after the council launched a competition to find the best portraits of HM The Queen. As part of the city’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, artists are invited to submit a portrait of the monarch which can be drawn, painted or even created digitally. There are four categories covering all age groups and the winners will be selected by a panel including the Mayor, local radio presenter Dicky Dodd, a local artist and representatives from WM Lieutenancy and the youth council. Entrants must live in the city, their work must be no bigger than A3 size and must feature the Queen in some capacity (but creativity is encouraged). The winning artworks from each of the four categories will be displayed in the art gallery and the artists will be invited to afternoon tea with the Mayor and receive a jubilee-themed goody bag. The deadline for entries is 4pm on Friday 31 May. Digital entries can be emailed to: mayoral@wolverhampton.gov.uk alternatively, entries can be dropped off at: or posted to: The Mayor’s Office, Civic Centre, St. Peter’s Square, Wolverhampton, WV1 1RL or dropped off at business reception at the rear of the Civic Centre. People must include a note with their name, age, postal address and either a phone number or email address when they submit their entry.
