During July of this year there was an Incursion of Travellers onto the Kitchen Lane Green Open Space in Ashmore Park. I have since that incident been at the fore front of a call to examine how this incident took place, and I have made a call to analyse what happened, what lesson’s can be learnt to mitigate any other incursion into the future.
This week at Wolverhampton City Council, a Task & Finish Panel took place, and a debate around the build up and the actions taken, by all the departments took place. Currently it is not a piece of work that is ‘public’.
After all the evidence has been analysed a report will be produced by this Group which is made up of City Council Officials and City Councillor’s. Evidence was taken on the night from Senior Officers from West Midlands Police & City Officials.
I am bound at the moment to wait for the report to be written, before I can really expand on the situation.
But I do want Wednesfield North residents to note that your Councillor’s have been and continue to drive this response. We called for the scrutiny group to look quickly at the incident.
Councillor Steve Simkins who Chaired the meeting has done so with speed, and I thank him for that, both Rita and I sat on the Task & Finish Group. It is the swiftness of our actions, and the responsive way that the City through Cllr Simkins organised this Task & Finish Group, I wish to highlight here.
As Councillors for the Ward we hope you will recognise the fact that we have not in anyway just been bystanders. Even after the Travellers have left we continue to press for solutions and answers that will be useful in any future situation.
