Be Proud Parents!
Residents who read these pages on this and other Social Media Pages, will know that your three City Councillors Councillor Rita Potter, Mary & Phil Bateman – have worked with the parents of young children to deliver a’ Play Area’ for Ashmore Park, that is safer and better adapted for very young children, than the design that we currently have in operation.
This was an issue which was first raised with Cllr Phil Bateman way back in May 2014.
Since that date, there has been a lot of individual views expressed and heard, at a number of public meetings, and through a full consultation process. The Parents that took up the argument have a lot to be proud about. There reasoned arguments got everyone thinking! Then the talking started!
This took place during 2014 and 2015 and over the best part of 2016.
The outcome of all those conversations, meetings, face to face deliberations was that parents helped design what Ashmore Park is to receive.
The completed design, which was put together incorporating the feedback from the local community, has been put out to tender, and today (Monday 3rd October) is the deadline for companies to submit their bids for the work.
The Next Steps
Each bid submitted will be assessed and evaluated over the coming weeks to select a contractor offering best value to undertake the work by the City Council. As soon as a construction start date has been agreed with the winning contractor. The City Council officials will be contacting me again with a further update.
That was where we begun when the parents requested a safer Play Area with dogs kept out…. I am keen that we start the Spring with all of this in place. I hope you feel like I do that this will be a great benefit to Ashmore Park and young children!
