Heathrow Airport Expansion?

Councils set to challenge third runway in court

Hillingdon, Richmond, Wandsworth and Windsor & Maidenhead councils are to legally challenge Heathrow’s expansion if Parliament votes through a third runway today. They are backed by Hammersmith & Fulham Council.

Now this fight isn’t just about London.

I would like to see West Midlands Local Authorities and Parliamentarians taking a much more aggressive stance on this issue. Allowing yet another runway development in London will do little for the UK  regional airports development.

West Midlands should be aggressively campaigning asking, and cajoling, the Government to do more in developing our regional airports like Birmingham and East Midlands.

Business, Industry and Leisure with Commerce do not want to have to continually make their way to and from London for travel arrangements. It takes time, it clogs highways, and it increases congestion and all that comes with it around London.

Besides the West Midlands economy is in need of continued investment in its transport infrastructure. It is important that our own links with the World are short, relevant and attractive not only to us here who live in the West Midlands. But those visitors, those potential business links that we need to trade with after Brexit, who come to our region from Global destinations.

So my thought for the day to our political leaders and our MP’s  – Please challenge with more vigour Heathrow’s expansion, and champion the regional growth argument for regional airport expansion.
