Having run two successful ‘floating markets’ in Wednesfield over the last two years, I am thinking that a Folk Festival based in Wednesfield might make a perfect partnership with next years ‘floating market’.
I am still in the ‘thinking out loud stage’ at the moment, but it is a type of entertainment that could again help to put Wednesfield on the map. But I would be interested in hearing Wednesfielders views on this?
I was lucky enough to be able to visit Tamworth in New South Wales Australia, when their Country & Music Festival was in full swing ( I was with Ed Doolan and Chrissy Doolan, and Frank Ifield) who was big in Country and Western in OZ. I know I am name dropping!
I watched for myself how that music festival filled bars and shopping parades with music and crowds! Now I do not have anything quite so grand as ‘Tamworth’ in mind. But I do think a ‘Folk Music Festival’ in Wednesfield may just be the right thing to do!
My thoughts are that it could take place in the same week end as the Flaoting Market. The Folk Festival could take place in Wednesfield Pubs that came together for the Festival. This would mean that the whole festival could be spread across the whole of Wednesfield. This would help local pubs to attract in custom, and at the same time provide a venue opportunity and show case for folk music.
I would look to unlock the big Public Open space between Sainsburys and the High Street for public performance. The Public openspace between Sainsburys and Bentley Bridge by the Cosmos also for performances.
Now this is just thinking out loud at this stage…….does it carry any resonance I want to know….Email me on email@philbateman.com if you have a comment or advice?
