Tonight I visited the Goldthorn Pub Wolverhampton, to listen to West Bromwich East’s
Tom Watson MP make a pitch for Labour Party members support for his campaign for Deputy Leader. After a long tiring day across the Country, Tom gave his reasons for standing. Then he took questions, a lot of questions! He asked veteran Labour politician Ken Purchase to act as ‘Chairman’.
It was a good performance – I liked his pitch which was to ensure that the Party campaigned, that Governance was important as was the need for the Party to embrace the digital revolution. He played to the members present by spotlighting the crucial role that Councillors and Local Government play.
He wants to work closely with Councillors as well as Party members and trade unions. It wasn’t a tub thumping performance it was carefully crafted. I shall be supporting Tom Watson for Deputy, and I would urge others also to do the same
