Pubs Thrown a Lifeline!

Pubs thrown a life-line Councillor Phil Bateman said today “I know that there are many people across Wednesfield & Wolverhampton and a little further afield, who are concerned about the loss of English Pubs!

However there are proposals about that will help local communities to protect these under-threat public houses. How will they save Pubs? Well it is by insisting that developers will need planning permission to change their status.

Knocking down pubs to build shops, offices or houses will need planning consent and the public will be given a chance to voice their concerns. We were very successful when the Community IMG_6458 Ashmore Inncame together to save the Ashmore Inn! So I think here in Wednesfield we understand the power of the community. But this measure will give even more assistance….That has to be seen to be good!”

Labour peer Lord Kennedy praised ministers for backing his proposal.

He said: “This is a victory for common sense.” The DCLG said: “We’re looking at how we can protect pubs through the planning system and cut red tape for landlords.”

Councillor Phil Bateman added “I reckon that this simple measure will be toasted right across England by all of those that are concerned with the rapid loss of our traditional Public Houses. Well done Lord Kennedy!”
