Wednesfield North residents please note this information as it relates to – Road signs around the Ring Road.
As part of the ongoing investment in road safety measures City Transport are installing “Watchman” signs at key locations around the Ring Road. These signs will detect speeding vehicles and flash a warning sign to “slow down” together with the vehicles registration.
Evidence around the use of these signs demonstrates their effectiveness at reducing traffic speeds and can be calibrated to 30 or 40mph. In order to operate they require ANPR cameras which are located overhead, a short distance in front of each sign.
These cameras have already generated some enquiries. But in my offical briefing it is said that they are for the operation of the signs and are not used for enforcement. Look out for a more detailed press release will be issued prior to them being switched on next week.
