Well here is the confirmation that Labour’s Mayoral candidate for the first West Midlands Mayor will be Sion Simon MEP.

Personally if we are to have a Mayor for the region, I am pleased that our candidate will be Sion.

He has put himself about the West Midlands and worked hard for Labour. Earlier in the year we had the pleasure of introducing Sion to our high achieving Ashmore Park Nursery where he saw at first hand the marvellous work we are doing educating  nursery aged children in school. He was most impressed with what we were doing, and with the regional and international impression we were making as we continue to build the school and staffs reputation.

I make no apologies in supporting Sion Simon for this role, and here is his correspondence to me this evening.

“Hi Philip,

The result has just been announced and thanks to your support and the hard work of everybody on #TeamSiôn we won by over 70% of the vote.

I’m honoured and humbled by such an overwhelming mandate from West Midlands Labour Party members.

But this is just the beginning.

The biggest fight is yet to come, as we take the battle to the Tories to bring Labour government to the West Midlands in the Mayoral election in May next year.

I can’t thank you enough for your support so far, and I hope you’ll be joining me out on the campaign trail across the West Midlands in the coming months.

With very best wishes, Siôn”
