Tell Us What You Think – Garbage Collection!

Did You Know that Wolverhamnew_recycling_bins Wolverhamptonpton City Council deliver their waste strategy through a partnership with private sector Amey.

This partnership provides collection, recycling and disposal. There are 106,000 dwellings businesses or there about, that receives this service across the city. The current contract commenced in April 2006 and it expires in 2020 some 14 years after it started.

Amey are responsible for all aspects of the operation, including operating the two waste and recycling centres and disposal services. Waste disposal is an expensive operation, Landfill disposal is subject to a Landfill Tax which is currently set at £82.80 per tonne of waste. This is in addition to the Landfill operator charge.

The Vibrant and Sustainable City Scrutiny Panel will be looking at this service on the 23rd July. This panel is under the Chair of Councillor Ian Angus. The purpose of the function will be to note the current arrangements for the collection and disposal of waste within the city, and to review and provide feedback on the draft literature to promote the benefits of recycling to the citizens across the city.
