Here Councillor Phil & Mary Bateman speak with the new Co-op staff who were training for the new store.

Well today I met the new Ashmore Park Co-Op team of workers who were training in The Hub at Ashmore Park.

I welcome along with my two colleagues – Councillor Rita Potter and Mary Bateman, the fact that the Co Op has invested in their new store which is due to open later in Autumn. The store has a workforce of 16 persons. Thirteen part time and three full time workers.

The management team asked Mary and myself to come down and meet the team as they trained for the opening day. It was a pleasure to do so, and I spoke about the importance of having a great team, one that were pleased to serve our community, and one that wanted to create repeat custom.

It looks like the store will be opening later this Autumn, it looks like it will be a stylish building, and my hope is that it will attract other custom which will strengthen the overall trading position of the shopping parade. Certainly competition will take place and the winners of this will obviously be the community as a whole. Both Mary and I wished all those training well in their new jobs.
