Up date on the Oil slick on the Wyrley and Essington Canal and the Wolverhampton -Birmingham Mainline.

Here is the most up to date information I have on the Oil slick on the Wyrley and Essington Canal and the Wolverhampton -Birmingham Mainline.

As you will recall I had a ‘tip off ‘ from a boater as we approached the week-end. I contacted the CRT and I also contacted the City Council .

The latest information I have received is from the Canal & River Trust, they inform me that “the CRT Team was aware of the oil pollution on the Mainline.” They also inform me “they have been out and placed absorbent pads – this will soak up the oil.”

CRT tell me that “The RSPCA have also been out to assess the wildlife in distress.”

But there is no real detail of what they found.

CRT have been to both the locations that I reported to them, and their assessment is “that the oil pollution is minimal now, with a very thin layer on the surface.”

They also informed me that they “did not find any wildlife or fish in distress, and that the team will be checking the waterway again on Monday” – 10th January 2022.

I have been sent further information by observant supporters of the the Facebook Page “Essington and Wyrley Canal ” two of the resident swans on the canal here in Wednesfield are starting to show signs of the pollution on their plumage. I have reported this to CRT again today.
