Some of the rubbish..see Video on Facebook for the worst excess.

I have just been and had a walk over at our lovely Green Open Space on Kitchen Lane Ashmore Park. It is usually a beautiful big space where residents can let their kids roam, play football. Have walks introduce the family to different trees, watch the birds, take the dog for a walk.

Tonight it is a horrible mess of rubbish destroyed caravans, packing, human waste, detritus and empty gas bottles mattresses, virtually anything that you can think of!

I am not happy about this, and I think that there needs to be a debate with the Local Authority and the Police about how this came to happen.

Now I am not hunting scapegoats. But I live in Wednesfield North, I have tried my level best over decades to ensure we have good services and good places to enjoy. This is not a good place to enjoy tonight nor will it be in the morning.

I am pleased that the local wildflowers that we planted are by and large flowered and I am pleased that the nesting birds have also been through their breeding season. Because what the travellers have left would have impinged on their viability.

I can say that I will not let it drop here. I do want the City & the Police to sharpen their act. I am going to call for a scrutiny panel to look at this incident and see if we can learn lessons to prevent this happening again.

In the meantime I will be pressing the City Council to secure the site, and to deliver a thorough claen up of this valuable community amenity.
