Wolverhampton’s Health Scrutiny Work.

Last night I attended a Health Scrutiny Meeting in Wolverhampton Council, I was told of the situation with regard to Mental Health in the City & The Black Country there is more than a challenge facing this City, Mental Ill Health apparently represents 23% of all ill health in the UK! The largest single cause of disability. Yet only 11% of England’s annual secondary care health budget is spent on Mental Health.

I was astounded to find out that between 10,000 and 20,000 people in the Black Country have some form of eating disorder! The effects of eating disorders can be devastating and life lasting both psychologically and physically. This year the Ombudsman reported that “Services poorly commissioned and provided,” Phew! this scrutiny work in this area of our health services looks tough! New Cross Hospital
